We live in the rolling hills of east central Alberta, a MD community near the AB/SK border. I was introduced into the world of exhibiting in 1998. The show dogs are my passion, our conformation Champions are bred under CKC standards, with emphasis on health, intelligence, character, temperament, movement and correct coat.
Conformation ring training along with show coat grooming involving many hours is a must, with this breed. Our dogs are all in show coats, and are entered in shows through out the year, in fact we could have a show of our own! We strive to show all of our dogs to the sporting group level.
In 1997 I graduated as an AHT (vet technology diploma program) at Lakeland College. I built ‘Rehmann Grooming & Kennel’ on site, to code, providing an all-breed pet grooming and boarding service. However, now I only care for my show dogs (those born here, those that came as puppies & became a huge part of lives & memories), and concentrate on the longevity health program for them.
Animal Health Technology(‘97) and former Lab & X-Ray Technology(‘69), has helped me to understand and put together a health program. Health tests are done on our show dogs for hips, patella & heart (OFA), eyes (CERF), thyroid profile (OFA), screening for blood clotting disorder (VonWillebrand) and Brucella canis, prior to breeding, and any other tests deemed necessary at the time.
We started with the Bichon in the show ring, but switched to the Cocker, now our primary breed, which comes in a variety of colors, we have mostly what is called PARTI color (bi's & tri's) . We like the Cocker to look as when bred for the original purpose (the partridge or quail hunter) a natural apperance, above all free spirited, merry and effortless moving around the ring. To date, we have used legendary bloodlines in our breeding program, from AB and WA to produce show quality puppies. To keep diversity, in our small generational program, we don’t repeat the same breeding, however, conformation with OFA results help sort out the breedings. We keep and enjoy grandsires/dams with their get and progeny. We like to work and improve what we have.
To enhance our breeding program I have to my CE credits, seminars such as ‘Canine Reproduction & Whelping’, ‘Intensive Puppy Care’, and ‘Breeding Better Dogs’. Owner-breeder handled conformation Champion sires and dams, health cleared (only those that are of fit body & mind) are used in our breeding program. Puppies maybe available to quality pet homes. You may see us in the show ring with our veterans or young adults. This website is the Show careers, the Generations & Ranibow bridge of Rehmann registered or owned Rehmann Spaniels!
